I’m Sarah and welcome to my kitchen.
Homestyle food is the center of every part of my life. The kind of food that gathers a family for meals, that is accessible to everyone at the table, and that comes together effortlessly.
I live by 3 basic food rules:
- Fresh is best
- Everything tastes better when you eat it with good people and/or good wine
- It IS possible to make a delicious meal after a long workday, but there is a 99.9% chance I will be in my pajamas
I’ve always loved food, and I love it even more now that I’m cooking for our little household. I’ve learned my way through the kitchen by watching my mom and grandfather cook, reading countless food blogs, and plenty of trial-and-error. Starting in college, my friends and family would ask for the recipes I was making, and I decided a blog would be the perfect fit. But why’d I name it Salt Jar?
My wonderful husband, Dan (who also doubles as head cheese-grater and master dishwasher) and I live in a small town in southern NJ.
My sous-chef, Shea, is always waiting at my feet to help, especially when steak or sweet potatoes are involved. In August 2018, Shea suffered a paralyzing spinal stroke and is now in a wheelchair. Read more about her story here.
