I was driving home from work, on the phone with my mom, talking about all the amazing grilled cheeses (is that a real word?) and panini’s she has been making. It’s already practically winter in Utah, so it’s the perfect time for her experiments.
In the middle of this conversation, I remember this sandwich she always used to make in the fall. Apple butter, cheddar cheese, ham, and fresh apples.
I knew I had to change our dinner plans immediately.

I picked up apple butter and honeycrisp at the Fruitwood Farms stand at one of my trips to the Collingswood market. I also used the garlic tuscan bread from Wegmans for an extra savory dimension.
