Mustard and Sausage Pasta

It’s no surprise this mustard and sausage pasta is of of my cool-weather go-tos. The rich elegance of a restaurant-style cream sauce, but easy enough for a weeknight.

Mustard Sausage Pasta

This pasta is made for a cool evening by the fire with a glass of  wine… and then s’mores for dessert. Now I’m just dreaming. I tend to gravitate to rich and creamy sauces rather than tomato based sauces.

The addition of mustard and red pepper flakes adds a zesty kick that cuts the richness of the sauce. Then topped with loads of fresh basil, this checks all the boxes to be categorized as a perfect meal in my book.

Mustard Sausage Pasta

This is another recipe my mom made frequently while I was growing up. Am I allowed to say this one is also my favorite? Cause I mean it.

  • 1 lb raw turkey sausage
  • 1/4 tsp. crushed red pepper flakes

  • 1 tbsp. whole grain dijon mustard
  • 2 tbsp. dijon mustard
  • 1/2 c heavy cream
  • 2 tbsp. finely chopped basil

  2. While the pasta cooks, preheat a large pan over medium-high heat. Add 1 tsp olive oil and heat until shimmering.
  3. Add sausage and 1/4 tsp red pepper flakes and cook until no pink remains, about 5 minutes.
  4. Add wine and chicken stock to sausage and cook, stirring occasionally, for 5 minutes.
  5. Reduce heat the medium-low and add mustards and an additional pinch of crushed red pepper (if desired), cream, and 1/2 of the chopped basil.
  6. Add pasta to sauce, and 1/4 cup reserved pasta cooking liquid. Add more cooking liquid until reached desired consistency. Top with remaining basil and serve immediately.
